Flowstate's AI-powered LDS+ distinguishes real pipeline leaks from routine pressure changes across gas, CO₂, NGL, and olefin networks

Flowstate Solutions has introduced an updated leak detection platform designed for pipelines carrying compressible products, a category that includes natural gas, carbon dioxide, natural gas liquids and olefins. Released on May 4, 2026, the company's Flowstate Leak Detection System, known as LDS+, combines physics informed deep learning with live SCADA data to improve leak identification in operating pipelines. According to the company, field validation conducted with industry partners demonstrated reliable performance across all four fluid types.
Detecting leaks in compressible pipelines has long posed a challenge because routine pressure and flow fluctuations can resemble the signatures of actual product losses. Those operational transients have often generated false alarms in conventional rule based monitoring systems. Braden Fitz-Gerald, chief technology officer at Flowstate Solutions, said the similarity between normal operating conditions and leak events has historically complicated automated detection in gas pipeline networks.
To address that problem, LDS+ incorporates fluid dynamics directly into its machine learning model rather than relying solely on pattern recognition. By embedding physical constraints within the neural network, the system is designed to distinguish genuine leaks from normal operational changes. Field validation was conducted in partnership with Southwest Research Institute and pipeline operators, providing performance data drawn from active pipeline networks rather than laboratory simulations.
Growing regulatory scrutiny over emissions, safety and pipeline integrity is raising the stakes for operators. More accurate leak detection could reduce false positives in control rooms, allowing operators to focus on confirmed events while limiting unnecessary investigations. The capability may also prove important for carbon capture infrastructure, where dependable monitoring of CO₂ transport pipelines is expected to play a central role in expanding large scale sequestration projects.
With validation completed across multiple compressible fluids, Flowstate Solutions is positioning LDS+ for broader deployment as new energy transport networks continue to expand. As oversight of pipeline integrity grows more stringent, technologies that improve leak detection accuracy are likely to become an increasingly important part of pipeline operations.
