KROHNE's PipePatrol NEO fuses AI, digital twins, and cybersecurity to detect pipeline leaks as small as 3mm within minutes
17 Jun 2026

KROHNE, the Dutch-German measurement technology group, has launched PipePatrol NEO, a pipeline leak detection platform combining artificial intelligence, physics-based modelling, and cybersecurity features. The product was presented at Berlin's 21st Pipeline Technology Conference, which ran from April 27 to 30, 2026.
The system can identify leaks as small as 3mm within minutes, according to the company. It pairs Extended Real-Time Transient Models, a physics-based method for simulating fluid behaviour inside pipelines, with machine learning and digital twin technology. The platform continuously refines its detection accuracy over time, moving beyond fixed threshold-based alarms that have long characterised legacy monitoring systems.
Cybersecurity has become a growing concern for pipeline operators as operational and information technology systems become more interconnected. Rather than treating security as a supplementary feature, KROHNE embedded it within the platform's core architecture. The company says this approach protects the integrity of operational data from the ground up.
The launch also introduces a Monitoring-as-a-Service delivery model, allowing operators to access continuous pipeline surveillance without building or staffing an in-house detection operation. For smaller pipeline companies, the capital cost of enterprise-grade monitoring has historically been prohibitive. The subscription-based model removes that barrier, broadening the addressable market for KROHNE's offering.
Pipeline integrity management is facing rising regulatory pressure across major energy markets, as governments tighten environmental liability rules and infrastructure operators face stricter compliance requirements. Platforms that can detect both leaks and theft in real time, while generating auditable data, are becoming commercially relevant beyond the largest operators.
KROHNE has not disclosed pricing for PipePatrol NEO or the managed service tier. The product's global availability timeline was also not confirmed at the conference.
